Ikat Oceana Wall Tapestry by Sarah Simpson©
Artist Sarah Simpson's colorful rendering organically and exclusively woven in this convenient size. The word "Ikat" (prounced ee-kaht) in Malay means to tie or bind together. To make Ikat fabric, ties or bindings are applied to the threads or yarns before they are woven. These bindings are used to prevent the dye from reaching all of the threads. This process is called "resist dyeing". Different patterns can be created by alternating the bindings and using more than one color of dye. Once the dyeing is completed the bindings are removed. Then the dyed threads are woven with threads that have not been dyed, thus creating the beautiful and intricate designs seen in Ikat fabrics. A Modern Classic.
The combination of the thread colors and weaving creates a unique art experience that changes with each viewing angle. It draws the viewer into the depth and texture of the image while adding an acoustic elegance to any room decor.
